Qatar Airways Purchases Ten Percent LATAM. The gulf carrier said it bought a 10 percent stake in the Chilean group LATAM Airlines for USD 608 million.
The Qatar national flag carrier announced the purchase of shares on Wednesday, 28 December 2016. LATAM was created when LAN de Chile took control of Brazil’s TAM in 2012. The airline flies to about 140 destinations in 25 countries.
LATAM shares closed at USD 8.42 a share on Wednesday, up 1.6 percent. Qatar Airways operates a fleet of 192 aircraft out of its hub at the new Hamad International Airport in Doha, which is preparing to host the World Cup in 2022.
